This is the second video in the series Creating Robust ELA Unit Plans Using the SABES Template. SABES recommends that you view the videos in numerical order to see how Lauren's conceptualization of the unit evolved over time. Earlier videos provide needed context for later videos. 

In VIDEO 2, you will learn how Lauren Twardy, an ABE teacher with Middlesex Community College, approached the section of the Unit Outcome/Culminating Assessment section of the  SABES ELA Unit Plan template.

1. How the SABES Unit Plan template helped her consider meaningful ways that students might demonstrate their learning;
2. Advice she has for practitioners and programs designing their culminating assessments; and
3. Benefits of completing the Unit Outcome/Culminating Assessment section of the template.

• Does the unit outcome/culminating assessment use the sentence stems on the unit plan template and describe an observable project, product, or performance through which students demonstrate their learned ELA skills?
• Does the culminating assessment reflect real-life/authentic adult tasks, engaging learners in problem solving, inquiry, and critical thinking?
• Are students likely to find the culminating assessment relevant to their life and goals?
• Are tasks worth the time involved?
